If you’ve noticed your lawn looking patchy after the winter, it’s time to give it some TLC. Here’s what you need to do:
- Trim your lawn as short as you can manage.
- Check for moss buildup, especially in shady areas, and remove it.
- Wait until the temperature reaches around 10 degrees Celsius or higher.
- Apply a moss killer, ensuring it’s safe for pets and grandchildren, and allow it to sit for two weeks.
- Once the moss has died off, vigorously rake it away.
- Purchase grass seed suitable for your lawn’s conditions (consider factors like usage and shade) and your preference (whether you prefer fine or coarse grass).
- Get lawn dressing, which is a mix of sand and loam, either from the store or make your own.
- Spread the lawn dressing evenly over the bare patches, then scatter the seed at a rate of 50 grams per square metre.
- Press the seed firmly into the soil to ensure good contact.
- If rain isn’t expected, water the area regularly, but don’t overdo it.
Follow these steps, and soon those bare patches will be a thing of the past, leaving your lawn lush and ready for summer.
